About

A Mac takeoff app, built by someone who does takeoffs

Project Blueprint is made by Blueprint Labs Ltd, a small independent software company in Auckland, New Zealand. Here is who builds it and why.

Who builds it

Hayden Treherne builds Project Blueprint. He works as a quantity surveyor on commercial construction projects in Auckland, and holds a BSc in Information Systems and Computer Science from the University of Auckland.

That mix is the reason Blueprint exists. Quantity surveying is measuring drawings carefully and being able to show your working. Software is the other half. Blueprint is where the two meet: a takeoff tool written by someone who measures drawings for a living.

Why Blueprint exists

Bluebeam Revu is the standard tool for construction PDFs. Its Mac version had its last update in December 2019 and reached end of life in June 2023. Since then, people who work on a Mac have had three choices: run Windows in a virtual machine, use a browser version without the full takeoff tools, or use a general PDF editor that can't measure to scale.

Blueprint is a fourth choice: a native Mac app that does the core jobs properly. Open a big drawing set, mark it up, measure it to scale, and hand it back to people on Windows without losing anything.
